IFoA
Corporate video content
Two pieces of corporate video content that elevated the IFoA’s digital report by speaking directly to its more than 30,000 members.
Background
The purpose of the IFoA (the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries) is ‘To be the voice of actuaries, and to support, develop and be the voice of our members.’
Over the last year, the IFoA has accomplished some excellent high-profile projects: introducing their flagship conference, launching IFoA communities, and developing a new virtual learning site, to name a few. These initiatives demonstrate the IFoA’s commitment to providing its over 30,000 members with the best possible experience of their membership body. Their annual report is one of the key tools to communicate the successes achieved by the various initiatives as well as serving as a platform to set out priorities for the year ahead.
Challenge
The corporate communications department at the IFoA called on our video production team to produce two pieces of corporate video content. The two films would feature the President of the IFoA and the Chief Executive, and would be a key element of the content for the digital annual report we were designing for our client.
The central London location and access to it for our film crew and their equipment was one of the challenges of this video production project. As the filming was taking place at the IFoA offices during working hours, we would also have to ensure that there was minimal disruption on the day of the shoot.
Solution
Collaborating with our client on the script, we organised the shoot and briefed the senior leaders on how to maximise their time on camera.
We chose a medium-close shot for both subjects to help them establish a connection with the audience while also including the IFoA offices in the background for context.
We also created a series of graphics that were added to the screen to punctuate some of the topics included in the script.
With limited time on site for the shoot, a key consideration of our video director was to keep lighting consistent, for example where natural light would be coming in from a window behind one of the subjects, shifting position as the day progressed. Thorough planning before the shoot meant there were no surprises on the day.
To add an extra layer of dynamism, we added some footage of external locations as well as some conceptual stock footage.
The use of Cinema 4D and the X-Particles plug-in allowed us to create deep fields of space and bumpers, which together with the name captions, match the motion graphics we created for the digital annual report.
