Ventient Energy
Corporate explainer video
A corporate explainer video that communicates, in a fresh and deeply engaging way, the impact of Ventient Energy’s work.
Background
A leader in the generation of renewable energy, Ventient Energy are passionate about the future of the planet. Operating since 2017, the company’s pan-European presence includes 145 onshore wind farms in the UK, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, France and Germany, with a total installed capacity of 2.8GW*.
Challenge
To produce an informational, corporate explainer video to generate awareness of the size, scope and impact of Ventient’s operations in one of their sites in the UK. Scheduled to be filmed in the depths of winter, consideration would have to be given to the potential effect the weather would have on filming itself, as well as the planned schedule.
Solution
The tone of the corporate explainer video is set within the first few seconds of the film: a very natural, relaxed style that still manages to energise and engage the audience.
The scene is set when Alexa Belsham, one of Ventient Energy’s electrical engineers, arrives at the Blackstone site for the first time, mirroring the feeling of the audience, who may have also never been to Blackstone before.
“I’ve not been to Blackstone before, so it’s nice to see it…”
From then on, the corporate explainer video takes a “how it works” narrative and visual approach, as we’re introduced to how Blackstone operates, and what the work carried out by Ventient means to the local community and beyond.
We developed the storyboard and script working closely with our client, and initially planned to film everything in just one day. But poor weather conditions on the original day of the shoot changed our plans, so we had to account for a second day of filming to obtain aerial footage once the strong December winds had died down. One of our partner companies – specialist wind turbine inspectors as well as experts in drone filming – took care of it.
To add further movement and highlight key information, we introduced motion tracked stats and a wave graphic that is a nod to the nature of what Ventient produces. Using another technique – rotoscoping – also allowed us to create layers in a number of sequences and obtain a 3D effect that adds extra weight to some of the footage. Also, a hybrid mix of automated and manual processes was used by our video production team to finesse some of the detail obtained by the film crew.
The corporate explainer video was widely shared across social media by our client and its followers.
