Background

In the words of our client, “As a membership organisation, our members’ needs are at the heart of everything we do. That’s why our focus over the past year has been about improving and enhancing the member experience.” And this year, that continuous development and refinement of the member experience extended to the organisation’s annual report.

Challenge

Shifting away from the traditional printed format, our brief was to develop a fully digital annual report that would resonate with IFoA members and give them a strong sense of ownership over the content. This transition to a digital-first approach was not just about modernising the report, it was a deliberate and strategic move to create a more interactive and accessible experience that better engaged the audience.

A key motivation behind this shift was to align with the IFoA’s sustainability goals, a cause deeply valued by its members. By moving to a paperless format, the organisation demonstrated its commitment to reducing environmental impact, reinforcing its dedication to eco-conscious initiatives. This decision also positioned the IFoA as a forward-thinking institution, embracing digital innovation to enhance communication while supporting a greener future.

Solution

Working with a digital content creation platform, we designed an immersive, interactive digital annual report that provides a seamless user experience. Unlike a traditional printed report, this dynamic format places the audience in full control of their journey, allowing them to explore content in a way that best suits their individual interests and preferences. With a digital-first approach, there are no page limitations, giving us the flexibility to include rich, in-depth content without restrictions. Without the constraints of a linear, prescribed reading experience, the report allows users to navigate freely, scrolling through sections that resonate most with them. This non-linear approach enhances engagement, ensuring that each user’s journey is unique and personalised.

The interactivity of the digital annual report sets it apart from static formats. Every section and piece of content comes to life through subtle animations, video elements and engaging effects, ensuring a highly engaging and visually stimulating experience. Unlike print, where content is confined to a fixed layout, digital reports offer layered storytelling, allowing users to dive deeper into key insights and explore information at their own pace.

To maximise engagement, the report features intuitive navigation, making it easy for users to absorb complex information effortlessly. Clear signposting and interactive elements ensure that key messages are presented in a way that is both digestible and engaging. Dynamic counter devices add an element of movement and energy, making statistics visually striking and easy to remember. By bringing data to life, the report creates an experience that is as informative as it is engaging.

Optimised for mobile and desktop use, the fully responsive format ensures a seamless experience across all devices. Unlike static PDFs or print reports, this digital version allows for real-time updates, ensuring that any necessary changes or additions can be made after publication.

Beyond design, the digital content creation platform provides powerful analytics, allowing the IFoA to track key engagement metrics such as visitor numbers, interaction rates and time spent on different sections. This data-driven approach offers valuable insights into user behaviour, helping the organisation refine future communications and better understand what resonates most with its audience.
