DRL
Instructional animation
In order to reduce the number of enquiries to their customer services department, DRL asked us to produce a series of over 120 short information films. We chose a simple but realistic instructional animation style.
Background
Parker Design is regularly asked to create high-quality instructional animation solutions. Our in-house animators and digital developers regularly produce high quality, well designed presentations, product demonstrations and interactive apps for a wide variety of clients.
Challenge
In order to reduce the number of enquiries to their customer services department, DRL asked us to produce a series of over 120 short information films explaining the terminology and features of a range of white goods and kitchen appliances sold on their e-commerce sites.
Solution
We chose a simple but realistic instructional animation style over live video as this allowed us to focus on particular features or cut-away areas of a product to get the message across more easily.
The series of animations were grouped under the ‘Ask Alison’ title and the head and shoulders of Alison were added to a left hand column containing information on the subject on the film. A voiceover was recorded and the Alison character was loosely lip-synced to it. The finished animations, all with voiceovers, were incorporated into the DRL e-commerce websites to help potential customers make informed decisions when purchasing online.
This particular instructional animation was required to explain the dual fuel technology, an important product feature that included both gas and electric components. Our design team demonstrated the technology with lit gas hobs, flickering flames and rotating fans, to communicate the distribution of heat and add visual appeal.
