Background

As a family-run business of over 120 years, the lives and welfare of the employees of the Cheshire-based bakery are extremely important to the management team and board of directors. Deeply-held family values run through the company, from the choice of products the company offers customers, through to the extensive charity work they undertake. To celebrate the achievements of the Roberts Bakery family, the management team have been producing a newsletter biannually for over a decade.

Employee engagement initiatives such as this company newsletter not only gives management a clear channel to communicate important business direction and progress, it also allows them to maintain and promote their cherished family values with employee news, from both inside and outside the Roberts Bakery premises.

Challenge

The Roberts Bakery company newsletter provides a central publication bringing together different areas of the business, and with significant acquisitions and mergers in recent years, it was vital now more than ever, that the newsletter design performed its role of reinforcing the family feel it’s had from the beginning.

Solution

We started by carrying out a review and analysis of the current employee engagement newsletter. Working closely with the management team, we established which areas of the magazine were effective, which needed a refresh, and which needed a totally different design and content approach.employee engagement newsletter

Taking into account recent developments in our client’s brand scheme, we developed a fresh new design for the newsletter, where colour, energy and strong photography take centre stage. We designed a new magazine-style layout giving the whole piece a much more contemporary, vibrant look, providing the space for us to be highly creative with the spreads. The resulting newsletter is captivating and engaging, creating a real buzz amongst both employees and management at Roberts Bakery.
