Information booklet

We designed an information booklet that generated immediate engagement and helped audiences understand the vital work taking place locally.

Background

Responsible for water and wastewater services in North West England, United Utilities delivers 1.8 billion litres of water every day to over 3 million homes and businesses in the region, as well as treating all the wastewater. The company manages an extensive behind-the scenes-operation, with hundreds of reservoirs, pumping stations and treatment works, thousands of kilometres of pipes and sewers and 5,000 staff.

As the North West’s largest utilities company, United Utilities understands the importance of regular and timely communications with customers and the communities they serve in a memorable, engaging and effective way.

Challenge

As part of its wider communications campaign, the company commissioned a new information booklet for each affected site. Each booklet needed to explain in detail the works being carried out and the reasons behind them.

Information booklet

The design also had to present practical information on changes to local road layouts, along with any adjustments to amenities and services such as refuse collection.

Solution

We created engaging layouts tailored to each information booklet. Detailed illustrated maps and diagrams clarified complex changes, while locally commissioned photography helped build an immediate connection with residents and businesses.

The booklet designs have proved highly effective in communicating key information to residents, and we have since gone on to deliver many more projects of a similar nature.
